A new beginning… again!

For those who have been following this little passion project of mine for the past few years, thank you for joining me once again. Julio’s story and Squid and Whale books, the little press behind it, has been several years in the making, always fueled by love, but with life always getting in the way. However, the universe is saying the time for this is now!
It all started as a fun project back in 2017, with weekly lunch interviews with Julio. We would try a different local spot each time, digging into our meals and Julio’s history, one afternoon at a time. Next year will be 10 years since this little idea sparked into a picture book project.
It’s been a long journey to get here. And now, even with several detours along the way (including the births of our two children, the wildfires of 2025, and a career change), I could never let this project remain unseen on my laptop. What started out as a fun project between two friends, has turned into a tribute to a local legend. You can learn more about the story behind this project in this post.
The excitement of it all has returned, along with a long list of to-dos until the launch of my crowdfunding campaign to get our picture book project finally printed. I will continue to chip away at these tasks until this project finally comes to life.
Until then, I will leave you with a message of gratitude and a sunny photo of the Griffith Park Merry-Go-Round, which you can now visit during their open house weekends! Learn more about the Griffith Park Merry-go-Round Restoration Project here.
Thank you for returning to read this, and thank you for the support, friends! The time for Julio’s story is now, and I will be back with updates very soon.
Abrazos fuertes 🥰,
Sarah
